Phase 5 — Run Your Practice

When to use this

1A former client's family you ended on good terms with. Enough time has passed (3+ months) that reaching back out is natural, not awkward.
2Their situation may have changed — care needs increase, other arrangements fall through. You're not begging. You're checking in.
3Text or email — not a cold call out of nowhere. Let them respond on their own timeline.

Text or Email

Note: Keep it short. You're not pitching — you're opening a door. If they're interested, they'll respond. If they're not, they won't. Either is fine.

When to use this

1A current or recently ended client's family who had a good experience with you. They know what you do. They may know someone who needs it.
2Ask for referrals when a placement ends well — before the relationship goes cold. The moment of transition is the best time.
3Make it easy for them. One question. No pressure.

Note: Don't overthink this. You're asking a simple question. The worst they can say is they don't know anyone right now. That's not a rejection — that's just a no for now.

When to use this

1Call the discharge planner at your nearest hospital or rehab facility. Ask to speak to "the discharge planner" or "the social worker." They exist at every hospital.
2You're not asking for business. You're introducing yourself so they know you exist when a family needs a private-pay caregiver.
3Call every 4–6 weeks. Consistency is what builds the relationship — not a single call.

Note: You will probably get their voicemail. That is fine. Leave the message anyway. Your name and number in their inbox is worth more than a cold call they didn't answer.

When to use this

1Post in Facebook caregiver groups, senior living groups, Nextdoor, or neighborhood groups in your area.
2Search: "[your city] senior care," "[your area] caregiver support," "[county] aging in place." Join 3–5 groups. Post once per group.
3The post isn't an ad — it's a resource introduction. That's why it works in groups that ban ads.

Note: Use this post once per group, once per month maximum. Posting the same thing repeatedly looks like spam. Consistency over time works better than frequency in a short window.
